9/12/01, today we are all Americans
On September 12, 2001 as America reeled from the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centers, the Pentagon and Flight 93, people all across the globe gathered. They all said "today, we are all Americans." Crowds in Stockholm, Moscow, Tehran, Johannesburg, London, Berlin, Buenes Aires, Tokyo, Beijing and Singapore held candles in night-time vigils. It was one of those rare instances when the entire planet was united. Nearly every country had lost someone in the Twin Towers.
The shining symbol of democracy, America, had been attacked by cowards using planes as weapons to kill innocent civilians. The Twin Towers and NYC symbolized everything that was great about America. People all across the planet agreed that what had happened was wrong.
All that has been squandered.
The worst President in the history of the United States blew it. He was aided and abetted by Republicans throughout the land. The compliant media transcribed anything he or his minions said without even the slightest critical thinking.
The Bush Administration began planning to attack Iraq immediately after 9/11. The lied. Repeatedly. They covered up the truth by destroying the email evidence and by stonewalling any subsequent investigations.
Let's just imagine for a moment or two what might have happened.
What if the recount in Florida had been allowed to proceed? What if the Supreme Court hadn't elected Bush President by a 5-4 vote? How would have President Gore responded?
Would he have invaded Iraq?
I think he would have hunted Osama bin Laden and all his associates down.
Gore would have capitalized upon the unity. He would have tried to eliminate the source of terrorism ... injustice and lack of opportunity. He may not have succeeded, but he would have tried.
And that is a whole heck of a lot more than we can say about the worst President in the history of the United States.
