Keith Ellison: explode the vote
Rep. Keith Ellison (DFL-MN) won the MN-05 seat in 2006 and represents one of the bluest districts in the country. So is he sitting back and enjoying his sinecure? Hardly. Keith's campaign is targeting turning out an extra over 20,000 voters over the last presidential campaign in 2004. 237,000 folks voted in 2004. That's an 8.4% increase. It's about 1700 new voters per precinct.
What does this mean? It means that Keith is going to do everything he can to help the DFL Senate candidate beat Norm Coleman and the Democratic Presidential candidate carry Minnesota by turning out the vote in 2008.
Help Keith help us all out!
I attended a strategy meeting last night where Keith's staff explained their strategy. But I'm jealous now. I didn't get to hang out with Keith. I didn't get to eat pizza (not that I can ... I'm ****ing lactose intolerant). Anyway ... the fun was Monday:
While registering voters is a big part of the Ellison for Congress campaign effort, the teens in the room did not seem excited by statistics about voter turn-out or plans to get out the vote. The campaign’s youth organizer, Simi Murumba (age 20, a 2008 Wellstone Fellow) stepped in to change the flow.
“Now’s the time where YOU can talk to Keith.” she reminded the teens. “What issues are important to you? What do you want us to focus on?” One youth raised questions about super-delegates. Ellison said that he is one, but that, “unlike Superman, I cannot fly and CERTAINLY do not wear a cape.”
Amid much giggling and snorts from the crowd, he continued: “I hate the idea of super-delegates picking the Democratic candidate. I believe, you DON’T – TAKE IT – AWAY- FROM THE PEOPLE!”
Students applauded his response, and continued with renewed enthusiasm and more questions.

awesome, uniting strategy - thank you keith
thank you keith, thank you eric
we need an awesome, uniting strategy to empower and enfranchise people who usually don't vote. I just LOVE it when incumbents do something positive with their clout!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Keith Ellison is going to be at our Church, you can see him ther
Big E,
Maybe you can hang with Keith Ellison on Saturday the 10th? Apparently he is going to be a speaker there.
CONVOCATION FOR A MORE PEACEFUL WORLD, May 10
10 a.m. Saturday, May 10 2008
White Bear Unitarian Universalist Church
328 Maple Street
Mahtomedi, MN 55115.
Ellison's GOTV goal
You might look at that math again. 1700 more votes per precinct is too high. In my precinct (W13-Pct2) that would double our vote. Maybe it is 1700 votes per Mpls ward.
Eric, there's lactose-free cheese available at the Global Market
Lactose-free cheese should be arriving for sale by the pound at Farm in the Market today in the Midtown Global Market. I just sampled a piece this morning and it's very good. My lactose intolerant partner and I are planning on using it in place of soy cheese from now on on our pizza nights at home. You might want to give it a try. (The rest of the pizza ingredients can be picked up at Jakeeno's in the market as well.)
Keith Ellison
Is everything a Representative should be for a district. I see him always all over the Twin Cities. He is always holding events, being at events, I just seem to always see him. In one weekend, I saw him Saturday at Peace Jam in North Minneapolis with Desmund Tutu and then later that Monday, I come to find out he was at a Model UN for high school students at my university. And it's St. Thomas and in St. Paul and not even in his district. He is excellent.
