Farheen Hakeem will run as a Green
In case anyone was confused about if Farheen Hakeem was going to run as a DFLer or Green (or both?) for the 61B seat, I've spoken to Farheen and she will be running as a Green Party candidate.
The confusion stems from several factors.
- Three people met with Farheen and urged her to run as a DFLer in the immediate aftermath of Neva Walker's announcement to not run for reelection.
- Secondly, she spoke with some peace activists who encouraged her to run and suggested trying to make her both the DFL and Green party candidates. This is somewhat complex process which would require the DFLers in 61B to endorse "no endorsement." The likelihood of this happening is pretty close to nil.
- Farheen intends to go to the DFL caucuses in 61B and distribute her literature outside of the caucus
- Ed Felien wanted to run an article about her running for 61B. Farheen spoke to Ed relating this same information I've related above. Ed's article compounded the confusion by misunderstanding her distributing her lit outside of the DFL caucuses with attending.
So Farheen is a Green. Clear?

Farheen Hakeem
The Southside Pride obtained an email from Hakeem. From the article:
Hakeem informed Southside Pride that she will be caucusing with the DFL party on Feb. 5, and she wrote in an e-mail that she will be “promoting a ‘no endorsement’ for 61B.”
EY: I'd be interested in seeing the entire email.
