How much do House Republicans hate veterans? This much

The Big E's picture

How much do House Republicans hate our veterans? They tried to attach a Drill Here, Drill Now amendment to a badly needed bill for funding veterans and military organizations. When a letter was read from vet groups asking the Republicans to drop the amendment, Republicans booed. Watch:

(h/t to Think Progress)

Thankfully, the amendment didn't make it and the bill passed.

That's right...

...Republicans hate veterans because they tried to get a bill passed that 70 percent of Americans want passed. We'll just ignore the billions in pork that Democrats tried to add to military funding bills over the last two years. Billions for really important stuff like peanut farmers, spinach growers and extra office space for Congress itself.
But in reality, what should have been added to the bill was billions of dollars for tire pressure gauges so we can save all that extra oil.

So, Dave - Don't You Get Tired...

...of those ChickenHawk republiCons playing games with veterans, and veterans benefits?

"I never thought I'd see the day I'd miss Richard Nixon."

Hey Tommy

since you're throwing the chickenhawk card, please name me the presidential candidate with children in the military.

But seriously, Tommy, here's the difference between our views on veterans. You believe vets are victims. Maybe it worked that way in your day, when we had the draft. But today, we are all volunteers. We don't serve for the money, or the glory, we serve because it's the right thing to do. And at my age, we serve to give our kids at least as good a world as we were given.

We don't serve for the benefits, we don't serve so that we will be taken care of in our old age, we serve for that old fashioned notion of doing the right thing. That's why I don't want Congress to vote for new bennies, that's why I didn't support the new GI Bill.

I am a veteran, and proud. I am not a victim.

We're clear your a vet, Dave...

Dave,

We're clear that your a vet. Thanks for serving out country.

Now ... as for the rest of what you have to say:

  • Electrocution
  • Poisoned Water
  • Poorly built and maintained bases, both in Iraq/Afghanistan & in the US
  • Insufficient and non-existent armor (both body armor and for vehicles)
  • Delays in providing armored vehicles
  • Slashed VA budgets during wartime
  • Privatization of the maintenance of VA facilities
  • Nightmarish bureacracy at the VA
  • Little to no funding of traumatic brain injury research
  • VA denying PTSD and TBI injuries to reduce costs
  • GI benefits no longer pay for a college education (much less even a part of it despite being promised that it would).
  • Insufficient support for vets returning from combat with PTSD.

That's a pretty horrible list of what our brave men and women of our Armed Forces have to endure if they serve in the modern military. It's funny that the Republicans are responsible for every single one of these problems and that its been the Democrats fighting for the rights and needs of our vets.
