More Norm Coleman push polling
A reader tipped me off to this one. Sen. Norm Coleman's (R-MN) campaign was paying for push polls as far back as July. This particular mnblue reader had the wherewithall to take careful notes. He'd mailed the Franken Campaign immediately and he let me know after reading Dale Moe's posted about the push polling. Here's the letter:
- Began with likely voter qualification. I told them 100% likely to vote and was selected in the poll.
- Went first to issues questions ... which are more important to you: (1) Pocketbook issues; (2) Social issues; (3) Energy/environment; (4) Fiscal/economic.
- Asked me to rate my concern over many issues on a scale of 0 to 100. This is when I became aware that it was a GOP poll, as the issues included "concern over appointing liberal judges" but didn't include concern over appointing conservative judges.
- Before asking who I was planning to vote for, asked several Obama/McCain questions, starting with whether I'd *consider* voting for Obama, then McCain. Also asked about Obama/McCain experience and bipartisanship.
- Finally asked about actual preference for President and US Senate. The US Senate question with 2 candidates was followed up by a 3-candidate question with Ventura included.
- Then we got to the "Would you be more or less likely to vote if you knew ..." questions. There were three of these, all aimed at Franken. First was the tax issue; second was the Playboy issue; and the third labeled him a flip-flopper on Iraq.
If I'd known in advance and been thinking faster, I would have falsely rated the Iraq question a sticking point, hoping to get Norm to run Iraq ads. Maybe the next guy, being forewarned, might do that.
