Breathing Concrete Dust On the 35W Bridge Rebuild
As I recall, Governor Pawlenty picked the highest cost longest time bid, which was also an out of state company to rebuild the 35W option. Apparently the high cost had nothing to do with worker safety:
But on second and third shift, that stuff breaks down, the cameras aren't there, and the guys are there laying concrete, breathing in that dust, and not being supplied with respirators.
My neighbor's friend's son brought his own respirator and went down and in the freezing cold, jackhammered out all that concrete on the river. Did that for weeks and then went to OSHA and handed them his vilely gunked up mask and asked them why EVERYBODY wasn't required to wear one. Seems that about five minutes after he did that, he was suddenly and mysteriously LAID OFF from the very lucrative Union Job.(Rosebuddear at DailyKOS)
However never underestimate the courage of ordinary people:
This mis-management is just typical. Not only has Republican Governor Pawlenty vetoed a transportation bill that could begin the fix the "structurally deficient" bridges and eroding transportation because it would cost too much. Remember that when that Pawlenty had ordered unnecessary extra investigations and also picked the highest cost longest time bid to build the bridge.
And the claim of highest quality just does not hold up:
The letter was dated Sept. 17, two days before the contract was awarded to a team led by Flatiron Constructors of Colorado.
Calatrava wrote that he had partnered with the Walsh/American Bridge team and had created a design that could meet the state's budget and timetable(Star&Tribune)
Basically, more and more Republican waste, mis-management and corruption. Good government does exist, it just does not exist under Republican administrations.

Wow you cross-recd my link from Kos
Gee thanks Grace.........I'm touched. My neighbor is a real Luddite and doesn't have Net access (no computer even). He will never know what he started by telling me about that. :):)
Ordinary Heroes
I was so touched by this story! Your neighbor now has people who read the blogs cheering for him.
Haha mildly famous
And he doesn't even know it...........I'd tell him, but he's *so* not interested in Net stuff......thanks for the reply Gracie. It was a pleasure to find this place through Kos. I am with ya. Hoping to go all the way with Democrats in 2008.
Oh and by the way how touching that you have your very own TROLL. Anonymous, you know the point of the story is not that a bunch of macho guys won't wear respirators, the point is that they're rather EXPENSIVE, and the workplace is not supplying them, which they're supposed to.
Thanks for the slur on my neighbor's friend, a-hole. Why don't you just go down to the jobsite there and introduce yourself to his buddies as the guy who smeared him on a blog, and see how close you come to getting a job there, ok?
Status check
It is a sign of status in the blogging universe, if a blog has its own troll.
Its their own problem if
Its their own problem if they don't want to wear a mask or respirators, get a life, probably deserved to be laid off anyhow. I hope that court case goes down the shitter on him. Who would I talk to so I can take his place working there?
