Damage control by Franken campaign????

At approximately 7:15 this evening I received a phone call from the Franken for Senate campaign.

Although I am out of a Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer subcaucus the guy still wanted to explain what was happening regarding Franken's tax/finance situation (he told me they were calling ALL delegates) because it was going to be all over the news tomorrow. Apparently the Frankens did not pay the correct amount of taxes in some states while overpaying taxes to NY and MN. Franken is going to make restitution and all should be well soon.

I have to say the person I talked to was very positive, upbeat and friendly. I personally feel that although I find these "mini-scandals" annoying, they are not very serious in and of themselves, and more a function of the Republican slime machine. That said, this crap will still be hanging out there and is something that Franken does not need at the moment as he was already losing to Norm Coleman even before this mishap.

Did anyone else receive a call tonight? What did you think? Was this a gesture that reassured you or does it make you think there's even something more lurking out there?

I Got the call too

The Franken campaign left me a message tonight at around 8:15pn, same as you got lams712.

First off, I don't think this should be an issue. I believe Franken is a good guy and didn't intentionally do anything wrong. Seems as though they are in damage control mode though. It's probably good that they are responding to the situation rather than ignoring it. It does make me wonder what else the Republicans have dug up on him. I'm also wondering about the timing.

I can't imagine that after last weeks poll which had Norm at 50% and Al at 43%, that Franken's numbers would go up in the near future after all this bad publicity.

My wife and I both got called.

She's a state convention alternate. I'm a delegate. I told the staffer that I thought it was a complete non-issue, that I had written a letter to the editor to the Strib saying as much, but that my wife and I were both still total Jack Nelson-Pallmeyer delegates. Because we think Jack would be a far better senator. In spite of believing that Franken's tax stuff means absolutely nothing.

My answer seemed to confuse her.
