An Evening with Al & Franni Franken
I am extremely honored to be a co-host for an Al Franken fundraiser next Thursday, June 26th, from 5:30 to 7:00pm. The event will be held at the home of former Minneapolis Library Board of Trustees member Alan Hooker, 4417 Upton Avenue North, in Minneapolis.
The event will be held in a casual north Minneapolis home with refreshments provided. Al will present some short remarks to those gathered, but mostly this is a great oppurtunity for attendees to meet with Al & Franni one-on-one in a relaxed setting, to learn more about this very important campaign, and to mingle with all the illustrious co-hosts (of which yours truly is surely the least interesting).
Complete details after the break.
This is a gathering of those who support efforts to retire George Bush's enabler, Norm Coleman. We're focused on raising funds necessary to get Al's message to voters, but none will be turned away and no amount is too small. I really cannot over-emphasize this point. As a former candidate myself, I can tell you I put every $5, $10 or $20 donation to work. And if 100 of you show up, well, that goes a long way towards printing lit, stickers, postage or even feeding hungry volunteers.
Speaking of volunteers, if you find yourself without money to donate, there are other ways to help get a message delivered. If 100 of you show up and pledge just hour of your time each week between now and the election, that's 2000 labor-hours. That goes a very long way toward accomplishing phone-bank goals, sign distribution, and professional looking mailings.

You know
I've kind of come full circle on Al Franken and I dunno, in the past week I've gone from hating him to really wanting to give him a chance and will be advocating for his election to the Senate. I'd go but I'm a broke college student (although Lauren Beecham is a college friend so maybe I could go for free or really cheap and wont feel guilty.) I've heard he has really grown as a candidate and from what I worked for him, I really wasn't that impressed. Maybe if I got to do a little meet and greet with him, it'd solidify me.
typo
from when I worked for him, not what I. I interned for him when he first became a candidate. It wasn't really because I liked him but really just wanted to continue working from November 2006. It was only February 2007, I was still fired up. It wasn't for that long either. And then Jack ran and my dislike solidified. But the endorsement does mean a lot to me, it being on a first ballot is pretty solid.
