Filing Offices Open Again Today: Primary Updates

After a slow holiday weekend, office filing is back in full swing today. Here's what's new:

58B: It is official, Keith Ellison’s home district has the endorsee vs. the incumbent, as Augustine “Willie” Dominguez filed for re-election last Thursday, following Bobby Joe Champion’s first-day filing. We previewed this race here.

10B: In this typically staunchly GOP district (60-40 split in ’06), DFL endorsed Tim Nieminen is looking to take on three term incumbent Dean Simpson, but first he’ll have to get past his primary challenger, Janine Hudson. Both DFLers are newcomers, and their platforms are strikingly similar. It’s a long shot for a pick-up, but I like these candidates – both seem like regular, down-home kind of people who have the right priorities. Sometimes I take a dim view of candidates running against endorsees, but in this district including Wadena, Parker’s Prairie, New York Mills, Perham, and Menahga, two people knocking on doors, drumming up DFL support, is better than one.
