Cure for the Blues: Staying Active

Grace Kelly's picture

November is a "blues" time to live up North. Truly you are feeling the lack of sunlight in your mood. I find one of the best cures is to do something active for the community like:

1) Phonebank: Call with a phone with free nationwide calling, to replace one of the very worst Senators in the game today with an actual progressive, the most progressive candidate to run statewide in Georgia in years, Democrat Jim Martin. Republicans have just dropped a $2 million bomb in the state! We can provide grassroots power by phonebanking through MyBarackObama.com . By the way, this method is easy and sweet. Just 15 voters at a time.

2) Conversation Seeding: I like to talk to many folks, especially Republicans, to figure out how they are thinking. What I have been finding is the isolation that we have allowed Republicans, lets them believe in the outrageous easily disproved lies that they have been fed. So think of planting conversation seeds, that may bloom in time.

Republicans believe that community financing laws created this recession. So my seed is: "Did you know about credit swaps, which accounts for estimated bad debt greater than the assets of the world?".

This one worked especially well, for a gentleman who read the Star Tribune every day. "Did you ever read in the Star Tribune that the US was shipping giant containers of shrink wrapped cash to Iraq? Would you have guessed that there was an accounting problem in making sure that cash was spent where it was supposed to spent?"

3) Concentrated Watching: The Franken recount is going to be an endurance race based on the volunteers. Early on it is easy to get volunteers. So now, you could make the difference by volunteering.

4) Citizen Journalism: This blog is a group blog. We are always looking for more green ideas, living simply and economically ideas, living healthier ideas as well as anything to do with progressive politics. For example a story of what it took to get your health insurance to pay a health bill can be used to leverage better health care insurance laws. Your experience and knowledge counts!

Seriously, taking a supplement of Vitamin D will also help the November "blues". Just walking in sunlight during the lunch hour is an easy way to get Vitamin D from sunlight directly.

Please comment away on ways that you staying active during the November "blues" season.

Speaking of citizen journalism

I noticed an article today in the Strib about security for the inauguration. Are you folks going out there to observe and document the methods used to maintain security and order like you did for the RNC? It would be nice to know the truth about how things are done in Washington.

Only if the event comes here

I don't have a budget or even payment. As usual, we will try to get someone who is already going to document.
