Tim Walz -- What a leader
I once again met Tim Walz who is running in Minnesota's 1st Congressional District. I'm even more impressed. I attended a fundraiser for him which also served as a reunion for the Wellstone Action Camp which started him and many others on his way.
This man has been dedicated to public service his entire adult life. From serving in the National Guard to teaching public high school to teaching in China to conducting annual education trips to China for High School students to helping kids start nonprofits. He has had a positive impact in every community in which he's lived and in Mankato since 1994.
His most recent nonprofit is really cool. What these Mankato kids started says alot about Tim. The kids thought they'd help Minnesota soldiers deployed either in Iraq or deployed somewhere else in the States as a result of the Iraq War. After sending care packages and that sort of thing, they learned that many of the troops would be allowed leave and would be flown back to Mississippi but would not be given any plane tickets back to Minnesota. At that point there were no plane tickets back to MN, because Katrina had just devastated the region. These kids ended up raising over $90,000 and allowed many soldiers to visit their families. This nonprofit organized a bus convoy to drive down there, pick up the soldiers, drive them up to MN then get them back in time to fly back to wherever they were deployed.
What a leader!
Compare that to a congressman who has voted with President Bush 90% of the time. A Congressman who has sent troops into War without the necessary body armour and equipment. A Congressman who is part of the 'Do-Nothing' Congress ... and this despite the fact that the Republicans control the White House and both Houses of the Senate. And finally, a Congressman who will not stand for honesty and demand that the corruption of the Bush Administration and the 'Do-Nothing' Congress should be investigated.
Imagine what Tim Walz might accomplish in Washington! He would demand an investigation into the corruption in Washington. He would demand affordable healthcare for everyone. He would not stand by as his fellow vets were sent into harm's way without the necessary equipment. Imagine!
Tim has a legitimate chance of defeating Rep. Gutneckt this November. The district is trending Democrat, progressives have been elected to the State Houses in the formerly Republican bastion of Rochester and Tim's campaign is working their butts off.
Now help Tim out by volunteering and giving:
