Norm Coleman slimes Al Franken from Teh High Road II
Now that Sen. Norm Coleman (R-MN) has officially begun his reelection campaign the sliming has begun. Norm claimed during his reelection kick-off event that the Senate race will be about issues and his "very, very positive vision". Every knows that this was a lie. Norm has to run away from his record and pray voters forget his strong support for all of President Bush's policies. As everyone knows in politics the only way to do that is to attack your opponent.
Coleman makes the charge in a fundraising e-mail sent out this week with the subject line, "It's Hard to Deny this Kind of Evolution."
"After decades of carrying the flag for radical left-wing causes, his extremely liberal viewpoints are couched in softer, more acceptable terms," Coleman writes of the former "Saturday Night Live" star. "And for the most part, he's stopped using curse words in public."
The e-mail prompted dropped jaws in Democratic circles Thursday. Franken campaign spokesman Andy Barr responded that Coleman himself has been all over the political map in his career.
"What's most troubling about Norm Coleman is what he has evolved into since he came to Washington," Barr said. "And that's someone who always puts special interests first and doesn't look out for Minnesota families."

Isn't it interesting that Norm is attacking Al Franken for what he's most famous for?
November 2006 was one of many turning points for Norm. He watched many of his fellow Republicans thrown out of office in a Democratic landslide. Norm changed from a arch-conservative to a desperate man looking for every opportunity to waste votes to moderate his voting record (it should be noted that Norm has stuck by President Bush on all the important conservative issues). From a arrogant conservative with a 90+% conservative voting record to flip-flopper. From a conservative attack dog the Republicans sent to attack Democrats in Boston during the DNC2004 to consensus-building moderate who "gets things done."
It only took one election night to accomplish this dramatic shift.
In the letter, Coleman says that throughout his career - as both mayor of St. Paul, Minn., and senator - he's been a "commonsense conservative," and he didn't back off that when asked about the letter Thursday.
"I have been in the U.S. Senate for six years," he said. "My positions have been very consistent."

Consistent? You, Norm?
You're consistent like George Bush is popular.
You opposed the surge before you opposed the opposition to the surge then you only opposed the surge in Baghdad then you voted for yet another blank check and soon after that resumed your cheerleading of the occupation of Iraq.
You were opposed to Medicare negotiating drug prices with your buddies in the pharmaceutical industry, but now that its your reelection year you're for it.
You were philosophically opposed to the filibuster when the Republicans controlled the Senate, but you're all for it now that you're in the minority.
As Chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations from 2003 to 2007, you ignored countless instances of corruption, incompetence, waste and criminal activiity in the Bush Administration's invasion and occupation of Iraq. Yet now you try to claim that you've been a diligent watchdog of public monies.
You opposed improving fuel efficiency standards prior to November 2006, but last year you voted twice to improve fuel efficiency standards.
